Forklift Operator Safety Training

Mon., Oct. 15; 11:30am-3:30pm. Four hours; $100.

Designed for all powered “lift truck” operators in manufacturing, construction and retail. The course will cover an overview of the regulations (29 CFR 1910.178), training requirements, forklift basics and characteristics, operating rules of the road, truck inspection (hands-on), dock safety, parking, and the stability triangle. Register now!

Licensed Nurse Assistant Program (LNA)  

Class starts October 19, Fridays 9-12:00, Clinicals and some classes Wed and Thurs; $1,920. Additional $150 needed for LNA License application and testing fees. A non-refundable $50 deposit is required to enroll in this class. 

This course will prepare the student to apply for Licensed Nurse Assistant (LNA) licensure with the State Board of Nursing. The program is targeted to individuals who are interested in beginning level skilled position in healthcare and immediate employment. Official signed verification of immunizations/titers is mandatory and must be presented to the instructor. A criminal background check may be required prior to clinical placement or employment.

Makery

Thurs. 5-9pm, Nov 1-Dec 20

The Makery will be opening Thursday, November 1 for mentor training in our Building Trades lab, Costume shop, and 3-D Printing lab!  Join us if you’d like to volunteer to be a mentor in one or more of these spaces.  Access for those just wishing to “make” will start on Thursday, Nov 8.  A trial membership fee for the months of November and December is just $25!

Understanding Opiate Addiction (rescheduled)

Tue. 6-8:15pm; Nov. 27, Dec. 4 & Dec. 11 (three two-hour classes); $30 includes dinner at 5:30pm. Recommended for anyone who wants to learn about opiate addiction and how to make a difference in their community. Scholarships available.  Topics include:

Shielded Metal Arc Welding I

Postponed until Spring; 30 Hrs; $600.

A beginner course to introduce students to the art and science of welding. Focus is developing hands-on proficiency. This process commonly known as “stick welding” is the standard for a variety of industries and applications. Hands-on practice with supervisor instruction ensures students develop proper technique. Also includes intro to MIG, TIG and cutting. Register now!

VT YouthWorks

Mon-Fri; 9am-1pm; Oct 15 – April 19; $4,862

VT YouthWorks is a 24-week, graduated employment and training program that helps unemployed or underemployed participants access demand-driven career pathways. Program services will be delivered through the collaboration of Vermont Adult Learning, primarily in the area of adult education and literacy, United Way, with mentoring and service learning opportunities, and Hannaford Career Center (HCC) with workforce preparation and training. Explore a variety of your own interests and strengths while building academic, work readiness, and technical skills. Students in this 24 week program will earn industry recognized certifications, create a personal career plan, and improve workplace skills in reading, writing, and math. The training includes 5 hours a week of work experience in a production wood shop to practice transferable job skills in a hands-on setting. Department of Labor WIOA-eligible students may qualify for free tuition and other assistance as well as $10.50/hour compensation for some work experience hours. Participants receive help funding and applying for and/or pursuing further training. Register now!

Basic Carpentry Skills

Tues 10/16-11/20, 6-8pm  $95

The Basic Carpentry Skills Course is a 6-week adult education course designed to:
1. Increase participants’ knowledge of the proper selection and use of hand and power tools, including their safe use;
2. Familiarize participants with measurement and layout methods common to the carpentry trade;
3. Through demonstrations, show participants how to complete basic home improvement tasks such as hanging shelving, replacing windows, repairing drywall, painting.
