(Grades 11-12) Half-day 120 minutes daily, m-f
The objective of this program is to provide the student with a broad range of skills and knowledge necessary for technician positions in the automotive field. The students receive state-of-the-art training through theory lectures and lab experience. The course of study includes Safety Procedures; Tools and Equipment; Fasteners and Welding; Mechanical and Electrical Systems; Steering Suspension; Brake Systems; and Engine Performance. Second year students who qualify may elect to do a cooperative work experience at a local business. The student organization V.I.C.A. with local, state, and national competitions is open to interested students, as well as the AAA/Ford Trouble Shooting Competition.
Prerequisite: 10 credits on transcript upon entering the program.
Recommended Preparation: Algebra I and Geometry, or related math, Intro to Technology, Physics.
Desirable Qualifications: A desire to advance professionally in the field, ability to read and comprehend technical textbooks, good manual dexterity.
Credits: One embedded science, one appliedĀ math and four elective credits upon completion of the two-year program.
